“Stepping out of Silence” – Judith's Blog

                                blah blah blah
I've been feeling a bit low these last few days for various reasons and my mind always knows that if I can get out for a walk I feel much better. I had a problem though, this morning it was grey and rainy - and I hate getting wet!
This wonderful carving has been created in-situ. A dead tree that could have been removed has instead been transformed into a work of art. I love how the design is reminiscent of a ship's figurehead and thus draws me back in time.
The image is the view across the lane outside our Devon holiday cottage. I found it very calming to look out every day of our holiday and to notice the subtle changes in the sky, the colours, whether the wind was moving the trees.
We are just back from a wonderful week in a south Devon cottage not far from Brixham. The cottage was deep in the countryside, surrounded by trees and fields with easy access to the coast path. Walking was easy as paths led in various directions directly from our front door and it was bliss!
I have been thinking about how I write. If you'd asked me this question a year ago I would have likely replied, "I don't know - I just do it!" I am becoming a better observer of myself and realise that for me the process of writing happens in stages, some of which I'd not even consciously acknowledged before.
When we moved here in 1993 we inherited a very old and misshapen apple tree, most likely a Bramley. Graham is always very keen to pick every single apple and store them away for his favourite weekend pudding - apple crumble and custard.
This was a fun photo captured by Graham when we visited Lantic Bay beach last October (2024). The tide was coming in with enthusiasm but I wanted to be close to the water. I was fine for a few minutes but every so often there was an enormous wave that threatened to drench me!
